Michael Bierut is a partner in the New York office of the international design consultancy Pentagram. After studying at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning, Mr. Bierut joined the New York firm of Vignelli Associates, eventually becoming vice president of graphic design.

In 1990, Michael Bierut joined Pentagram where he leads a team of graphic designers who create identity, environmental, and editorial design solutions. His clients have included the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, United Airlines, The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Minnesota Children’s Museum, Walt Disney Company, Mohawk Paper Mills, Motorola, Princeton University, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Library of Congress.

Mr. Bierut served as president of the New York Chapter of AIGA from 1988 to 1990 and was national president from 1998 to 2001.

Mr. Bierut has won many design awards and his work is represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, New York; Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Germany. In addition to his talents as a designer, Michael Bierut co-edited and designed the monograph Tibor Kalman: Perverse Optimist and is a co-editor of the Looking Closer series.
