With commissions from major corporations and cultural institutions throughout the world, Alan Fletcher has earned an international reputation for innovative, stylish, and at times unexpected design.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Mr. Fletcher studied in London and New York, where he began his design career working for Fortune magazine, the Container Corporation, and ibm.

After returning to London, he co-founded the influential design firm Fletcher Forbes Gill in 1962. Ten years later, the firm evolved into Pentagram, which went on to great success as an internationally recognized design group. During his tenure at Pentagram, Mr. Fletcher created design programs for Reuters, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, The Victoria & Albert Museum, Lloyd’s of London, and Daimler-Benz. In 1992, he left Pentagram to open his own design studio, where his clients included Domus magazine, London Transport, Toyota, and Phaidon Press.

Alan Fletcher has written several books, most recently, The Art of Looking Sideways (Phaidon Press, 2001), and co-authored four publications on the work of Pentagram—Pentagram: The Work of Five Designers, Living by Design: Words and Pictures, Ideas on Design, and Pentagram: The Compendium.
