A revolutionary artist whose provocative vision brings the avant- garde to the mainstream, Eiko Ishioka has created some of the most remarkable works of our time.
Recognized as Japan’s leading art director and graphic designer, Ms. Ishioka has more recently produced acclaimed work in production and costume design for film, theater, and opera which have brought her continued acclaim. In 1983, she published a retrospective of her graphic design and art direction work entitled Eiko by Eiko. 2000 brought a long-awaited second volume, Eiko on Stage, focusing on her work for stage and screen.
Eiko Ishioka continues to expand the scope of her achievement, designing costumes for The Cell, starring Jennifer Lopez; directing the music video for Björk’s “Cocoon”; designing racing uniforms and outerwear for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, and costumes for Cirque du Soleil’s production, Varekai.
