The designs and illustrations of Milton Glaser have delighted a worldwide audience. His “I [heart] New York,” commissioned by the state of New York in 1976 (and updated after September 11, 2002), has been called the most frequently imitated logo design in human history. Mr. Glaser came to prominence in 1954 as one of the founders of the celebrated Push Pin Studios. He co-founded New York Magazine in 1968 and was president and design director of the highly influential publication for nearly a decade.

In 1974, he founded the design studio Milton Glaser, Inc. In 1983, Mr. Glaser and Walter Bernard formed the publication design firm wbmg, which has overseen the redesign of numerous periodicals. His 300+ posters for clients in music, theater, film, institutional and civic enterprise, and commercial products and services have spread their message internationally. His work has been exhibited worldwide, including one-person shows at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Pompidou Centre, Paris, and is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; the National Archive, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, New York.

In 2001, Milton Glaser published a dazzling retrospective, Art Is Work (Overlook Press).
