The eclectic, historically redolent typography of Paula Scher gave new direction to record and book cover design beginning in the 1970s. Following her work at Atlantic and cbs Records, Ms. Scher co-founded Koppel & Scher in New York in 1984. She joined Pentagram as a partner in 1991. Over the years, Paula Scher’s practice has broadened to include identity and branding systems, promotional materials, environmental graphics, packaging, and publication design for a wide range of clients. Her unique design vocabulary deftly conveys a range of ideas in ways that continue to reverberate with contemporary audiences.
Ms. Scher’s work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, New York; the Zurich Poster Museum; and the Pompidou Center, Paris.
