Interior Design: Foundation Level

This foundation level certificate provides beginners with a fundamental education in the field of interior architecture. It is the only program in the nation leading to a Master of Interior Architecture degree that is offered on a continuing education basis.

What you can learn.

  • History of environmental arts, fundamentals of interior architecture in both commercial and residential interiors, color theory and more
  • Use of either AutoCAD or Revit, two powerful computer-aided design (CAD) programs favored by major firms
  • Use of freehand drawing and drafting to communicate design concepts
  • Diverse curriculum providing essential skills for going on to advanced degree classes

About this program.

interior design

An open enrollment program taught by instructors who are practicing professionals in the fields of interior design, architecture, or fine arts. Its flexible scheduling allows for balanced class loads and scheduling. Internship, mentorship, and job placement opportunities are available through our program advisor. Students can be eligible for NCIDQ examination after required work experience. 

Students who complete the certificate with a grade point average of 3.0 or better and have a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply to the Master of Interior Architecture degree.

The Interior Design: Foundation Level certificate is approved for international students (F-1 student visa).

International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting test scores from either TOEFL, IELTS or iTEP. Some applicants may be exempt from this requirement if certain criteria are met. 

English language proficiency (minimum*):

  • TOEFL iBT: 83
  • IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall
  • iTEP Academic-Plus: 4.5 
*Admitted international students whose test scores are below 100 on TOEFL iBT, 7.0 on the IELTS Academic, or 5.1 on the iTEP Academic-Plus will be required to take 1-2 supplemental English as a Second Language courses.
