Geospatial Imagery Analysis

This two-course, fully online specialization in Geospatial Imagery Analysis is developed in partnership with UCLA Department of Geography. It teaches students how to apply GIS image analysis techniques to data retrieved using remote sensors, including satellite and aerial imaging platforms. Remote sensing and image analysis methods are useful for anyone working in the fields of environmental science, agriculture, defense, urban planning, natural resource management, forestry, and many others.

What you can learn.

  • Learn to integrate image processing, analysis and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping methods, build multi-step, image-analysis processes, and use basic scripting and model-building techniques
  • ArcGIS software analysis methods, including using Landsat, radar, Global Positioning System (GPS), and Earth Observing System (EOS) satellites to study land-use change, oceanography, meteorology, and environmental monitoring
  • The processes by which images are captured by sensors mounted on remote platforms, including satellites and airplanes, and key characteristics of the collected images
  • Basic image processing techniques to use with Google Earth Engine, a cloud-based remote sensing and image analysis platform

Join our free info session to learn more. This program is structured as an open enrollment program, no formal application process is required. Enrolling in the certificate program for the first time involves two steps: 

(1) registering for Advanced Remote Sensing and/or Satellite Remote Sensing & Imaging course, as the gateway course(s) to the program, and

(2) declaring certificate candidacy. Registering, paying for 'candidacy fee' establishes you as a student formally seeking to complete the Specialization. Note that this process may be completed at any time after enrolling in a course(s) and does not need to be completed upfront.
