About this course:
The UCLA Extension and GCI Cyber Certificate Program for Lawyers focuses on providing lawyers with the necessary insight and tools to shape cyber corporate strategy for their respective firms. Participants emerge as legal experts in cyber law, essential for the security and accountability for every type of legal practice. The program provides lawyers with the fundamental concepts of cybersecurity and its application to governance, risk management, insurance, and incident response. Concepts, practices, legal requirements, and case studies are presented from the viewpoint of a lawyer and drawn from examples of cybersecurity designs, plans, incident responses, insurance policies and procedures that were effective and ineffective in countering potential threats and actual attacks. Lawyers will learn how to explain to all levels of management, including both technical and non-technical executive leadership, why cybersecurity must be a priority. Participants will learn how to educate and influence senior management so that security and risk mitigation becomes a primary component of corporate strategy. The course involves attending an intensive two-day, in-person class that allows those with limited time to engage, learn, and network with peers and leading industry leaders and academics. The content and structure of the series allows lawyers who do not have a background in cybersecurity to be successful, while offering new areas of knowledge and applied practice for lawyers who have prior cybersecurity experience. *The course is eligible for CLE credits, including ethics.
