About this course:

The Commission on Teacher Credentialing’s (CTC) is actively working on “multiple, accessible” pathways for elementary teachers and ECE permit holders to teach in TK and developing a PK-3rd ECE specialist credential. This webinar will outline the Commission on Teacher Credentialing’s (CTC) current work on PK-3rd alignment and the development of credential-style models of teacher performance assessments, program evaluations, and pilots in ECE teacher preparation programs. California has required child development permits for early childhood education teachers to work with young children, while credentials have been required for K-12 teachers.  With the rollout of universal TK, CA is 8,000 – 11,000 teachers short for TK classrooms.  The CTC has been paving the way for “multiple, accessible pathways” to prepare teachers for working with younger children, especially in TK. CTC and the California Dept of Education (CDE) are also working on PK-3rd credential models and program accreditation. CDE has an interest in Residency teacher preparation programs. We will discuss the proposed pathways for permit holders and multiple subjects’ credential holders to teach in PK and TK and the implications for ECE preparation programs and for current ECE teachers.
