This online course introduces conceptual development in science and math for young children. Students will learn to use the California Preschool Learning System and National Next Generation Science Standards to create inquiry- and play-based science and math experiences for children birth to age 5.

About this course:

This course introduces science and math foundations and curriculum development for toddler and preschool educators.  Students will use the CA Preschool Learning System guidelines to address mathematics and science for young learners, and they will become familiar with the National Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).  The focus in science includes scientific inquiry and physical, life, and earth sciences.  In mathematics, students will focus on number sense, classification and patterning, measurement, geometry, and mathematical reasoning.  Students will learn to develop play-based experiences that support children’s inquiry learning, plan activities over time, select and organize materials, and assess child learning. This course qualifies towards Title 5 and Title 22 CA licensing and CA teacher permits.
