Summer Pilot Practicum Experience in Early Childhood Education

This is a 15-week, elective for Early Childhood Education teachers who need a supervised practicum experience credit to earn a CA Child Development Teacher permit. This course is meant as a culminating experience, after completion of the UCLA Extension ECE Associate Teacher Certificate.
ECE students may take this course as a stand-alone, with pre-requisite courses in 1) child development and 2) ECE curriculum. Students will find an early childhood care and education site prior to starting the course and commit to two 3-hour shifts per week in the classroom. The classroom mentor teacher must hold an ECE permit at the Associate Teacher level or above. Sites should demonstrate a commitment to developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate practice, as well as to collaborative relationships with families/guardians.

Prerequisites
Completion of EDUC X 21 Child Development course and EDUC X 24 Introduction to Curriculum and Learning Environments course (or of equivalent courses from other recognized institutions) is a prerequisite for enrolling into this course. A minimum GPA of 3.0 in your ECE courses is required. The mentor teacher has to have a Master Teacher Child Development permit. Placements for this course are available on UCLA ECE sites in Westwood. This is an online, asynchronous course with once a week mandatory zoom meeting on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:00pm PST. This course requires the purchase of GoReact software at $32. The link to purchase the software will be available in Canvas.
