READ MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE

About this course:

This course examines the concept of sampling and its influence on pop and hip-hop. We take an in-depth look at notable hip-hop producers such as Marley Marl, J Dilla, Hit-Boy, Metro-Boomin, Dj Premier, and others who have revolutionized the art form of sampling throughout the decades. Basic techniques of chopping, time stretching/warping, looping, and bpm counting are covered. Students then create sample-based productions to present to the class while incorporating styles and techniques from prominent sample-based producers. Students also learn how to produce a song utilizing sampling techniques during an artist session.
