About this course:

Research shows a direct link between people's moods and the food they eat. Learn about the interrelationships between food, mood, behavior, and neuroscience. Topics include the brain's pleasure pathways and drives to overeat; the gut-brain connection; biochemicals that increase and decrease eating; effects of a meal; macronutrients (carbohydrate, protein, fat); micronutrients (vitamins, minerals); and how substances like alcohol and caffeine affect mood and eating behavior. Discussion of behaviorally based weight management techniques focuses on a program designed to re-wire the brain reward pathways. Students complete projects designed to strengthen understanding of their own food choices, moods, and eating behaviors.
