About this course:
Did you know that aerobic exercise was found to be as effective as antidepressants in a landmark study? When it comes to a healthy brain, a better mood, and reduced drives to overeat, you can't beat exercise. It improves our ability to learn, sleep, and cope with stress. Exercise even helps defend against dementia, addiction, anxiety, and ADHA. In this course, students begin to understand the interrelationship between exercise, mood, eating behaviors, and neuroscience. Topics include the brain's pleasure pathways and drives to overeat; biochemicals that increase and decrease eating; the role of exercise in weight management; the connection between exercise and neuroplasticity; psychoneuroimmunology and exercise; and the effects of exercise on cognition and learning, mood disorders, aging, stress, and sleep. Throughout the course, students complete assignments designed to help them explore their own mind-body connection.
