UCLA Extension currently offers three primary modes of remote learning: onlineremote instruction, and hybrid.

Online Instruction: Course is taught asynchronously and fully online using Canvas. May include optional limited live instruction via zoom, as designated in the course description.

Remote (Live Online) Instruction: Course is taught in real-time using Zoom. Class sessions are scheduled on specific day(s) and time(s). Students access course materials through Canvas and use integrated tools such as Zoom to join the live interactive classroom. Students may ask questions and interact in real-time with the instructor. The live sessions can be recorded so students may view them at a later time.

Hybrid Instruction: Course is taught using a combination of both asynchronous using Canvas and synchronous instruction via Zoom.

Asynchronous: students engage with learning materials—such as lectures, discussion boards and quizzes—posted on Canvas, and interact with the instructor and other students using messaging tools.
Synchronous: instruction occurs in-real time during a live, pre-scheduled Zoom session where instructors and students interact.
