John Alvertos is an executive with over 20 years of experience in Information Technology and Cyber Security. His unique experience combines corporate, consulting and academic positions with some of the world's most recognized organizations and universities, including EY, PWC, Oracle, AIG and UCLA. His professional certifications include CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CCSP (Cloud Certified Security Professional), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), PCI QSA (Payment Card Industry Qualified Security Assessor), PMP (Project Management Professional) and ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library). John is a mentor and a teacher who enjoys sharing his experience from the consulting and corporate worlds. He recognizes that IT managers need to master traditional IT department activities as well as understand emerging trends and technologies like converged infrastructure, cloud, mobility and cyber security. But to be successful, they need to also develop their non-technical skills, become business-savvy and focus on the value of technology as a service to the business. For these reasons, John’s goal as an instructor is to deliver a balanced course that presents current best-practices and explains new ideas within the context of real-world situations. Companies around the globe are recognizing the need for robust cyber security strategies in order to be protected from external hackers, insider threats, data corruption or data loss. John is a cyber security advisor and strategist with experience in conducting risk assessments and advising corporate boards, CIOs and CISOs on optimizing their security strategies and roadmaps. John’s education includes an MBA from UC Irvine, a Masters in Communication Management from USC and a BS in Computer Science from the University of London. He is actively involved at the Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine, where he serves as a mentor to first-year MBA students.
