Sean Leonard

With more than 30 years in the Southern California real estate development and construction industry, Sean L. Leonard began his career as a concrete subcontractor and progressed to general contracting and development management. He is now heads S.L. Leonard & Associates, which oversees multi-million dollar projects primarily for nonprofits, developers and public entities. 

Sean managed the Walt Disney Concert Hall and The California Endowment Headquarters and Conference Center, both of which were awarded the prestigious AIA Presidential Award for Project Team of the Year.

Sean’s other projects include the Camarillo Public Library, the WAV (Working Artists Ventura) mixed use project, the Ventura County Museum Expansion, City of Hope Helford Replacement Hospital, Somis Union School District’s new Campus, the Ventura County Community Foundation’s Nonprofit Center building, Casa Pacifica’s 9-building campus expansion and Legal Aid Foundation of LA’s new headquarters. Other notable projects Sean managed prior to forming S.L. Leonard & Associates include the million sf Wilshire Courtyard, Third Street Promenade, the 52 story Gas Company Tower and the UCLA Law School Addition and Renovation. Under Mr. Leonard’s direction, his firm has managed apartment and condominium projects totaling over 2,000 units of housing.

As a faculty member through the UCLA Extension program, Sean lectures on construction management and is a guest lecturer for the UCLA Shopping Center Development class. He received the 2013 Distinguished Instructor Award from UCLA Extension. Through the USC School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, he has been an adjunct professor and taught in both the Master of Construction Management and the Master of Science in Civil Engineering degree programs. Sean also guest lectures in the Masters in Real Estate Development program at USC. Mr. Leonard was a speaker at the 1997 International Parking Institute Annual Convention in Seattle, Washington, where he spoke on “Innovations in the design and construction of parking structures”. In 2011 Sean was invited to speak at the University Of California’s capital programs’ system wide annual conference on Quality Control during the Preconstruction Process and also at Housing California’s Annual Conference on “Innovations in Project Delivery”.

Sean serves as the President of the board of directors of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme, vice board chair of A Community of Friends, developers of low income and special needs housing, is a board member of the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation and a board member of Vista Real Public Charter. He is a member of the Construction Management Association of America. Sean was featured in the Pacific Coast Business Times' "Who's Who in Commercial Real Estate and Construction" and "Who's Who in Sustainability". 

Mr. Leonard holds a B.S. in civil engineering from UCLA and an M.B.A. from USC.
