An Inquiry into Current American Society

GENINT 721.574

Osher (50+). This discussion group examines current American social behavior and norms.

About this course:

Many of us find the American social situation perplexing. We may wonder how we got here and where we are going. In this course we examine current American social behavior and norms and offer insights and perspectives on how to view recent and drastic changes in the American social fabric through the lenses of social science, current and reliable journalism, and academic scholarship. We take a tour through five key periods of American history to find answers: pioneering and exploration, renaissance and reform; economic ascendancy, clash of civilizations, and the new normal. A lecture is followed by discussion in which participants answer a short questionnaire and then utilize these answers for dialogue and discussion about American society.
