Legendary Hotels and Restaurants of Los Angeles

GENINT 731.384

Osher (50+). In this course, we explore the history and stories of the legendary hotels and restaurants in Los Angeles.

About this course:

There are hotels in Los Angeles, and then there are hotels like the Ambassador, the Biltmore, and the Bel-Air. There are restaurants in Los Angeles, and then there are restaurants like the Brown Derby, Chasen’s, and Spago. This course explores the social history of our city through the legendary hotels and restaurants that have attracted guests since the 1890s. We focus on the trends and stories behind the hot spots where people celebrated special occasions, went to see and be seen and—since this is Hollywood—glimpsed movie stars.
