Music of France during the Nineteenth Century
About this course:
Music by German composers such as Beethoven and Wagner typically dominate the history of Classical Music. However, the music of France has played a significant role in shaping much of European culture and society as well. This course focuses on French music beginning in the nineteenth century, exploring composers and musical traditions through the fin de siècle. We delve deep into the impact of composers such as Hector Berlioz, Georges Bizet, Camille Saint-Saëns, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and many others.
