About this course:

Robert Schumann (1810-1856) was a German composer, pianist, and music critic in the nineteenth century. Schumann is considered one of the most important composers and music critics of the nineteenth century. This course explores Schumann’s compositions within the cultural and historical context of the nineteenth century in order to understand the music and the world in which it was conceived. We explore repertoire including Carnaval, Symphonic Etudes, Kinderszenen, Kreisleriana, the Piano Concerto, chamber music, and some of his symphonies. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to videos for the duration of the course.
