About this course:

Haven't seen any good documentaries lately? Ever wish the filmmaker was there to answer questions? Want a knowledgeable, accessible moderator? Try our OLLI DocuTalk Series hosted by Audrey Stein. This winter, she screens Crazywise, a documentary film that explores the meaning of psychosis from the perspective of traditional cultures and individuals who have recovered and grown from their experience. Phil Borges spent 25 years documenting indigenous and tribal cultures that often identify psychotic symptoms as an indicator of shamanic potential. This surprising finding eventually led Borges to explore our current mental health crisis, people struggling with extreme states and their claims of spiritual awakening. The film has been translated into 14 languages and shown in over 60 countries. The award winning photographer and filmmaker’s work has appeared on National Geographic and the Discovery Channel and been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide. Mr. Borges will be on hand to take questions after the screening.
