Breakthroughs in Cancer Treatment

GENINT 711.349

Osher (50+). In this course we compare anticancer immunotherapy to gene therapy with chemotherapy.

About this course:

The goal of breakthrough cancer treatments is to prolong life with the least possible discomfort. Anticancer immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that helps your immune system fight cancer. As of June 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had approved 32 different immunotherapies targeting melanoma, lung cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, lymphoma, leukemia, prostate cancer, and more. In this course, we compare immunotherapy with conventional chemotherapy regimens that are based on new approaches of targeted and possible gene therapies. Time permitting, we discuss the importance of early detection using innovative and advanced non-invasive methods.
