(Formerly Exploring the Reggio Approach: U.S. Adaptations.)
This course applies toward Title 22 Regulations, Title 5 Child Development Permits, and the Basic and Advanced Core Programs. This is an in-depth course in the theory and philosophy of the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. Students explore the principles of the approach as they relate to current early childhood education practices. The emphasis is on U.S. translations and adaptations. Course content includes the history and context of the Reggio Emilia approach, the image of the child, relationships and interactions, the rhythm of the day, the role of teachers, documentation, long-term projects, and U.S. adaptations.Required text: Working in the Reggio Way: A Beginner's Guide for American Teachers by J. Wurm. Credit students must attend all meetings; no credit is awarded if a meeting is missed.
