This Online TOEFL Preparation class helps students develop both the skills and self-confidence necessary to take the TOEFL test for the first time or improve existing scores. Through self-study and online interactions with other students and the instructor, students will be better able to navigate the conventions of Academic English that are tested on the exam. The course will emphasize summarizing, making inferences, identifying the tone and purpose of a passage, listening to and taking notes on college lectures more effectively, participating more confidently in conversations with native speakers, and expressing opinions when responding to written and spoken discourse. After taking the class, students will have a stronger command of what is expected of them on the TOEFL exam; will have developed a toolbox of skills that will help them to do well on the test; and will be better equipped to function in social, academic, and professional contexts where English is used. While this course is open to everyone, it is designed for students with a TOEFL score of 60-72.
