Course DescriptionThis course introduces students to the craft and discipline of simultaneous interpretation. Students learn the basic skills and techniques of simultaneous interpretation by practicing shadowing (repeating everything a speaker says verbatim) and dual tasking (concurrently performing two different tasks, such as oral shadowing while writing down something unrelated). Students are introduced to various topics, including administrative hearings, current affairs, economics, business and finance, legal affairs, and such common court scenarios as rights advisement and pleas.
PrerequisitesFluency in Chinese (Mandarin) and English and admission into Interpretation/Translation Certificate: Chinese/English.
