The first part in a two-part sequence designed for writers who want to focus on adapting literary material, fiction or nonfiction, into films. Your major project is to complete and polish a screenplay for a short film, (22 pages maximum) based on a public domain material from literary, theatrical, mythical and traditional sources. You also complete an outline of a story for adaptation to a full length screenplay. This course will introduce screenwriters, writers of fiction and drama, and creators of new media to the aesthetic and techniques of creating visual, dramatically compelling screenplays. The goal is to help you develop the skills associated with adaptation so vital in the current industry and your unique voice and style.
