About This Course

Every photographer has a subject before they choose one. It lives in whatever they cannot ignore, shaped by their own history long before they own a camera. In this session, Monty Marsh examines photographers working across genres, from documentary to fashion to architecture, whose most enduring work came from personal conviction rather than assignment. He will explore how that conviction shows up in the work, and why it is visible even to a viewer who knows nothing about the person behind the camera. The work that lasts comes from photographers who knew exactly where they stood.
