About This Course
In this course we cover a series of case studies with a focus on Avionics, Space and Defense. For each case study we look at the procedures, ConOps, requirements, architecture development, design, integration, test and deployment. Students can analyze the approaches and procedures in each case study and experience real-life systems engineering. This course is built upon the prior courses and provides students with an opportunity to put what they have learned into practice and test. This course is very interactive and discussion oriented.
In addition to the case studies, students will have the opportunity to work in teams to system engineer a realistic system. Teams will walk through different phases from concept studies to technology development, preliminary design, final design, integration & test, operation & sustainment, and closeout. During this time, they will develop outlines for the system’s ConOps, define requirements, do logical decomposition, develop outlines for the SEMP (Systems Engineering Management Plan), SOW (Statement of Work), PDR package, CDR package, V&V plan (Verification & Validation Plan), and more. Teams will present their work during the class and receive feedback for their work.
