About This Course
Constantin Stanislavski, master teacher, director, and author of An Actor Prepares (1936), revolutionized the way actors access the internal life of a character. He is the father of acting technique, the primary source for every process that followed. The dynamics of every great performance are rooted in his work. To build a skillset from Stanislavski is to build an artistry that evolves with the demands of the profession. Every actor who sustains a lasting career has found themselves in the seat of a Stanislavski class. To work with great directors and A-list actors, you must gain fluency in the language and principles he established. Each week brings a different focus, drawing from the work of Stanislavski and his four disciples, Stella Adler, Michael Chekhov, Sanford Meisner, and Lee Strasberg, integrated with original exercises developed by award-winning acting coach and instructor Kimberly Jentzen. This course will bring you a series of breakthroughs: emotional range, imagination, focus and concentration, building multilayered characters, genre, managing fear, making strong choices, understanding what instinctive acting truly is, improvisation, scene work, and a newfound depth and freedom in your craft. Scene material drawn from both contemporary and classic American theatre: Lorraine Hansberry, Henrik Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Lynn Nottage, Eugene O’Neill, Sarah Ruhl, John Patrick Shanley, Sam Shepard, Diana Son, Tennessee Williams, and more.
