Derek Jones
Derek Jones has always been a hardworking and driven individual. From an early age he began working as a professional musician and won numerous awards throughout high school for his performances. Derek’s hard work paid off, and he received several scholarships to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied all aspects of music from performance to film scoring to engineering. Derek graduated Berklee Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in music, and then moved to the creative center of the entertainment industry, Los Angeles, California, where he currently resides. Once in L.A. Derek quickly landed jobs as a producer, sound engineer and mixer. Some of the artists he has worked with include Major Label artists David Hollister (Universal Music Group), DJ Quik (Universal Music Group), Javier (Capitol Records), Stacie Orrico (Virgin Records), The Apex Theory (Dreamworks), Jeff Lorber, Michael Franks and many more. He has also started produced music for TV Networks and Film Studios in Los Angeles. This led to Derek joining the team at Megatrax. For the past 20+ years, Derek has worked at Megatrax Production Music in North Hollywood, the largest independently owned production music library in the US. Initially starting off as a sound engineer in Megatrax's world class recording studio complex over 20 years ago, Derek is now the Director of Creative Services & Production, overseeing all in-house production for the company across the 10 Megatrax-owned labels as well as custom music production for clients. In his 20-year tenure at Megatrax, Derek has recorded, edited, mixed, and produced over 900 albums of music for use in TV and Film, in every style and format imaginable. From Hip-hop to a 120-piece orchestra to a 20-piece big band to a heavy metal power trio, he has literally done it all (and everything in between)! Derek has launched 8 of the 10 labels Megatrax owns, including two labels that he created and maintains himself for Megatrax. When Derek took on the role of Director of Creative Services at Megatrax, he increased the company's in-house production output by over 600%. Derek's philosophy is to find ways to work smarter not harder, without sacrificing creativity or production quality. Derek's love for films and TV shows has also led him to be a freelance composer, producer and sound engineer specifically for films and TV shows. Derek has worked as a Dialogue and Sound Effects editor, Score Composer, Score Mixer and Re-recording mixer for Films, TV shows and TV commercials. Derek's freelance Film/TV credits are listed on IMDB under the name "Derek Alan Jones". Derek’s enthusiasm and creativity drives him to excel in everything he does, from performing to composing to mixing and editing. In his work, as in his life, Derek always strives for perfection, never settling for anything less.
