Julio Ramos

Born and raised in Lima, Julio O. Ramos is a Los Angeles based writer and director. In 2012, he obtained an MFA in Film Directing from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. His student body of work has received top honors by the Directors Guild of America, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Los Angeles, the Emmys Foundation, and the Ministry of Culture of Peru.

His recent work includes ¡Una Carrerita, Doctor! and Detrás del Espejo.  Both short films, made in his native Peru, screened in over two hundred film festivals around the globe including the 2011 Telluride Film Festival, 2011 CFC Worldwide Film Festival, and 2012 Camerimage Film Festival. They also picked up top awards at the 2012 Palm Springs Shortfest, 2012 La Habana Film Festival and 2012 Zinebi Bilbao Film Festival.

¡Una Carrerita, Doctor! aired nationwide on KQED’s premier season of Film School Shortsfeaturing the best student work across the US, while Detrás del Espejo had its online debut on ShortoftheWeek.com and was recently named a Vimeo Staff Pick.

Julio is currently in development for his first feature film while working as part-time instructor in the Entertainment Studies program at the UCLA Extension.
