Mary Trunk

Mary Trunk

started as a painter, became a dancer and choreographer and has been making films for over 20 years. Her first feature length film, The Watershed (www.thewatershedproject.com), screened at over 30 film festivals worldwide and won numerous Best Documentary Awards. She spent seven years filming four mother/artists for her most recently completed third documentary feature, Lost In Living (www.maandpafilms.com). The complex realities of family life unfold in this documentary film about the messy intersection of motherhood and artistic expression. Her short documentary, The Past is in the Present, is an intimate portrait of the Pulitzer Prize winning composer Gunther Schuller. Her newest hybrid documentary project, Muscle Memory (www.musclememoryproject.com), will be a reflection on her past dance career and how that influenced everything she does. Mary is also working on an interactive website called This Woman’s Life that will feature stories about the invisible women in our lives and what they can teach us about survival and living life to the fullest. Mary teaches film and video at Mount Saint Mary’s University, UCLA Extension, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA, and at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter.
