Instructor Statement:

Whether you’re writing an original pilot or working in a writers’ room, one of the most important things as a writer is to show people you have a unique voice. Thankfully, we all already have a lived experience and singular view point that makes us see the world in ways others don't. Focusing on your unique perspective is a part of finding your voice as a writer; it’s only through a consistent writing practice, however, that it begins to reveal itself, so I encourage my students to make writing a daily habit. One of the joys of teaching is seeing students come alive when they find the story they want to tell and begin the journey of honing their own writing style. As a teacher, my goal is to encourage my students to not be afraid to be themselves. I support my students to discover what it is they have to say, and to dare to say it, while creating a classroom environment in which they feel supported to do so.
