Richard Patlan has worked in the IT industry for the past 30 years. Richard currently works for Chedraui USA, a grocery chain in the southwest with over 11 billion dollars in annual sales. He serves as the Senior DBA/SQL Programmer and is responsible for all aspects of the company's Enterprise Database Platforms. He is responsible for maintenance and performance of over 250 production databases. This includes SQL Servers and DB2 instances on-premise and on Amazon Web Services (AWS). In addition, he manages all security for internal and external users, develops and implements database disaster recovery plans and SQL programming.
Prior to this position, he worked for UCLA as a DBA and SQL programmer. He was responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying back-end Relational Database Management System using Microsoft SQL Server and Db2. Richard also managed and coordinated the design and development of production websites using ASP.Net MVC in C#. Since 2005, Richard has been the lead instructor of several courses at UCLA and UCSD Extension. He has taught Introduction to Structured Query Language; Advanced Structured Query Language; Relational Database Management; Introduction to Distributed and Object-Oriented Databases and Introduction Geographic Information Systems (GIS) courses.
