Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in seven (7) cities across the U.S., is looking for a Paralegal – Litigation to fill a full-time non-exempt position in its Los Angeles office. You will succeed in this position if you are highly organized with excellent attention to detail. Qualified applicants will have an Associate’s Degree (or higher) or a Paralegal Certification required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  Substantial equivalent experience in Litigation will be considered in lieu of education. Legal experience in a capacity other than paralegal may be considered towards qualification for a Paralegal position.  To be determined by paralegal management on a case by case basis. This position is eligible for a hybrid-remote work schedule after a period of in office training.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists case team(s) throughout all phases of litigation including trial preparation and trial.
  • Reviews and drafts discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices and other court pleadings and documents, including summarizing transcripts and medical records.
  • Conducts document reviews and prepares document productions.
  • Identifies, collects and organizes factual evidence, including deposition and witness outlines, deposition and trial exhibits as well as digests of deposition and trial transcripts.
  • Cite-checks and blue-books briefs and prepares exhibits for same.
  • Creates organizational systems for case documents.
  • Participates in the creation of databases, performs data entry, conducts database searches and generates reports.
  • Assumes responsibility for operation of trial support technology.
  • Performs other duties identified by the supervising attorney as necessary to provide professional, cost-effective legal representation to the client.
  • Participation in the Firm’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Program is required. A minimum of six hours of CLE credits and professional development courses are required annually.  CLEs and professional development courses may be provided by the Firm, through outside educational sources or a combination thereof.

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to analyze complex documents and compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills; ability to balance multiple projects, work independently and have strong time management skills, as well as prioritize workload.
  • Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the work day, and having the ability to transport 25 pounds and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Compensation:

For applicants that meet the experience requirements for the role and are physically based in California, the expected pay range is $90,000/per year – $130,000/per year upon commencement of employment based on 40 scheduled hours per week.  Starting pay will be determined on an individualized basis with consideration for prior experience and additional qualifications.  This is in addition to a comprehensive benefits package offered by the Firm.
