About This Course
In this course, we discuss Native American literature through the eyes of several significant Native writers. Authors and their works include Leslie Marmon Silko’s photographs, short stories and poetry featured in Storyteller;; N. Scott Momaday’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, House Made of Dawn; and Louise Erdrich’s novel, The Night Watchman, also winner of a Pulitzer Prize. We conclude with Morgan Talty’s humorously titled national bestseller and multiple award-winning book of short stories, Night of the Living Rez. In these works, we see how these Native authors explore their cultural identity and heritage within the confines of the white society that has been thrust upon them.
