About This Course

The 1795 Third Partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth—which resulted in the imperial absorption of Ukrainian lands—sent a shockwave of grief across the Atlantic to a young American republic, affecting even its formation. Far from an isolated event, this geopolitical rupture marked the beginning of centuries of deep transatlantic ties. In this course, we examine 250 years of interconnected history among these three nations across demographic, cultural, economic, political, and military spheres. From historical transatlantic migration to modern geopolitics, we trace how these shared histories shape contemporary international relations and evaluate the critical challenges and opportunities defining their collective future. This course uses the Hybrid format which allows students to participate remotely and/or in the classroom. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to videos for the duration of the course
