About This Course

From the time of the pharaohs through the Roman period, a plethora of symbolism, religious expressions, and cultural icons presented within the various periods of Egyptian history reveal a country that continues to capture our imaginations. Beginning with the Predynastic Period and continuing through Byzantine period, this course explores the rich artistic and cultural tapestry of Egypt, including tomb paintings, architecture, decorative objects, and the lives of the Egyptians. We also examine the resurgence of interest in ancient Egypt during the 19th and 20th centuries, known as Egyptomania, fueled by the archaeological discoveries of the Napoleonic campaigns and the opening of King Tut’s tomb. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to the video for 30 days.
