Female Silent Film Icons and the Birth of the Modern

By the 1920s, American silent films dominated world screens through their portrayal of the passion and exuberance of the jazz age. Such iconic stars as Clara Bow, Louise Brooks, Gloria Swanson, and Anna May Wong captivated audiences with their independence, sensuality, and fashion sense. In this course, we view several of their clips and discuss their modern screen personas as well as their lasting impact on popular culture.
