The purpose of this course is to equip advanced orthodontic trainees with the comprehensive knowledge required for contemporary orthodontics, to gain understanding of orthodontic therapy from a biologic, anatomical, and biomechanical perspective, and to understand prenatal and postnatal growth and development of the craniofacial complex from the biological and structural perspectives. Topics include craniofacial/orthodontic biology, diagnosis and treatment planning, the management of malocclusions in children, adolescents, and adults, a wide range of topics related to biomechanics in orthodontics; the foundational orthodontic techniques sessions includes orthodontic extraoral and intraoral photography, systematic examination of facial and dental appearance, craniofacial osteology and anatomy, cephalometric landmark identification and tracing, cephalometric analysis, cast analysis, and the development of a problem list.
