About this course:
Gain a broad understanding of design and its dynamic past to discover inspiration for the present. Survey the history of visual communication, design's sociopolitical and cultural contexts, and the artistic and technological characteristics of various movements. Students create portfolio pieces inspired by the designers and movements studied.
Prerequisites
DESMA X 479.6A Design Fundamentals, DESMA X 481.99Z InDesign, and DESMA X 479.4A Typography.
Certain lectures will be held live via Zoom at 7pm. Students must either attend the lectures live via Zoom, or view the recorded lecture later in the week.
International students: due to recent changes in SEVIS requirements for F1 visa holders, international students must be enrolled in 12 units to be a fulltime student. Of those 12 units, two courses must be In-person or Hybrid (In-person). To remain in status for your F-1 visa you must attend three in-person class sessions for each of your In-person or Hybrid (In-person) UNEX courses. All three in-person Thursday 3-6p class sessions (dates below) are mandatory and must be attended.
