Where to Start

The policies below provide students with a fair opportunity to gracefully withdraw from an enrollment commitment. Please read them fully before making your request.

To view the refund, transfer or withdrawal request deadlines for a course in which you are enrolled, you will find them printed on your payment receipt. You can also find them by logging into the UCLA Extension Student Portal, selecting My Enrollment History from the menu, and clicking on the blue dot next to the course in question.

Drop or Transfer a Course

You may request to drop or transfer from a course up until the end of day (11:59pm PT) on the final refund or transfer date.

How to Drop or Transfer a Course:

  • Log in to the UCLA Extension Student Portal
  • In the menu select My Enrollment History
  • Find your course and select “request drop” or “request transfer”
  • Follow the prompts to complete your request

You may also contact Enrollment Services to drop or transfer from a course: enroll@uclaextension.edu or 1-800-825-9971. Please note: Due to COVID-19, refund requests will not be accepted via U.S. or international mail until further notice.

Refunds

If your drop or transfer request is approved and a refund is owed, you will be notified by our staff. Refunds will be processed automatically—please allow 3-6 business days for credit card refunds and 10 business days for refunds by check. There are no cash refunds.

Nonrefundable Fees

  • A $30 administrative fee will be withheld from each dropped course for which a refund is due ($50 for concurrent enrollments). This does not apply to courses that are cancelled by UCLA Extension or transfer requests that are received on or before the final transfer date.
  • Additional fees may be withheld as indicated in course listings. These fees are typically listed in the Details and Notes of each course section, if applicable, and are generally earlier and the amounts withheld are higher.
  • Certificate candidacy and miscellaneous application fees are nonrefundable.

Non-Transferability
An enrollment is not transferable to another person.

Financial Aid Eligibility
For students receiving financial aid, dropping or withdrawing from a course may affect aid eligibility. See Financial Aid Enrollment Conditions for more information.

Emergency Circumstances
If the final refund date has passed, claims for exception to the course refund policy will be considered only under the most unusual circumstances and only if the request is received within 90 days from the course end date. Send a letter describing your circumstance, with appropriate documentation, to refundexceptions@uclaextension.edu

Courses Cancelled by UCLA Extension
UCLA Extension reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or combine courses on or before the first scheduled class if fewer than the required students enroll. If your course is canceled, discontinued or rescheduled before the first class meeting date, or if the instructor does not accept your application to attend a restricted course, we will contact you and issue a full refund.

Withdraw from a Course

If after the final refund date, you decide to discontinue participating in your course, you have the option to withdraw up until the end of day (11:59pm PT) on the final withdrawal date. A grade of “W” will be placed on your record, but the course will not appear on your transcript. No refunds are available for course withdrawal.

How to Withdraw from a Course:

  • After the refund deadline, log in to the UCLA Extension Student Portal
  • In the menu select My Enrollment History
  • Find your course and select “request withdrawal”
  • Follow the prompts to complete your request

You may also contact Enrollment Services to withdraw from a course: enroll@uclaextension.edu or 1-800-825-9971.

Please Note: For students receiving financial aid, dropping or withdrawing from a course may affect aid eligibility. See Financial Aid Enrollment Conditions for more information.
