Course Drops, Transfers, and Withdrawals

Life happens, we get it.

Here is everything you need to know about dropping, transferring or withdrawing from a course.

Dropping a Course

There may be times as a UCLA Extension student when you need to drop one or more courses from your schedule. Refund requests are accepted through the final refund date, which is printed on your payment receipt. To drop a course:

  • Online: Log in to our Student Portal and click on “My Enrollment History.” From there, click on the Request Drop button. An Enrollment Specialist will review your request and notify you if your drop is approved and if you are eligible for a refund.
  • Phone or In Person: Call or stop by and see us.

Course Transfers

UCLA Extension may occasionally cancel courses if fewer than the required minimum number of students enroll. If your course is canceled or rescheduled, you can either request to transfer to another available course or request a refund. If you elect to transfer and had used the Early Enrollment discount when enrolling in your canceled course, you will receive the discount for your new course.  To transfer to another course:

  • Online: Log in to our Student Portal and click on “My Enrollment History.” Then follow the following steps:
    • Click on the Request Transfer button
    • Click on the Request Transfer into This Section button
    • An Enrollment Specialist will review your request and contact you by phone if the new course has a higher fee
    • You will receive a Confirmation of Acceptance and Registration by email once your transfer is complete
  • Phone or In Person: Call or stop by and see us.

Course Withdrawals

If after the final refund date you decide to discontinue participating in your course, you have the option to withdraw up until the final class session.  To withdraw from a course:

  • Online: Log in to our Student Portal and click on “My Enrollment History.” From there, click the Request Withdraw button. A grade of “W” will be placed on your record, but the course will not appear on your transcript.
  • Phone or In Person: Call or stop by and see us.
