Henri Bollinger Memorial Scholarship
Hollywood publicist Henri Bollinger ran his eponymous full-service PR agency for 50 years. He was a revered UCLA Extension instructor who served as president of the Publicists Guild and the Entertainment Publicists Professional Society.
Bollinger represented a diverse array of entertainers and entities, including Bob Barker, Shirley Jones, the Cinema Audio Society, Wes Craven Films and The World Series of Poker. He worked on campaigns for movies, including A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, The Price is Right, The Julie Andrews Hour and The Kennedy Center Honors. He was the recipient of the Les Mason Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a publicist by peers.
Bollinger died in 2018 at age 89.
- UCLA Extension will award one scholarship per year toward the cost of one course (up to $900) in the Strategic Branding and Public Relations Certificate or the Entertainment Studies Certificate.
- The scholarship is not transferable and expires after one (1) year of the award date.
- No cash award will be given. Unused scholarship amounts will remain in the scholarship fund to be used for future Henri Bollinger Memorial scholarship recipients.
- Submitted applications that are incomplete, late or from students who are not eligible will not be considered for an award. Multiple submissions will not be reviewed. Applications will not be returned.
- The applicant selected for the scholarship will be notified via email.
- The scholarship recipient may utilize their award to offset course fees beginning the following quarter.
- Students must be enrolled in the Strategic Branding and Public Relations Certificate or the Entertainment Studies Certificate at the time of application, and have paid the certificate candidacy fee.
- Applicants must meet all prerequisites of the Strategic Branding and Public Relations Certificate or the Entertainment Studies Certificate.
- Applications must be received by the deadline shown and ONLY via the online application portal.
- Eligibility criteria for all final candidates will be checked and confirmed by UCLA Extension.
- UCLA and UCLA Extension employees and family members or dependents are not eligible to apply.
- Previous Henri Bollinger Memorial scholarship winners may not re-apply.
The following documents must be completed and uploaded by the deadline. Applicants can stop and start the process in order to gather additional documents. MS Word and PDF are among the formats accepted.
To apply, candidates must:

- Submit a 500 word, typed personal statement*
- Submit a current resume
*Personal Statement:
In 500 words or less, describe how completing your certificate will help you achieve your personal and/or professional goals. What is your motivation to study in your chosen field, and what do you hope to accomplish after earning your certificate? To honor Henri’s storied career as an entertainment publicist, please be specific about your interest in public relations and/or the entertainment industry. The judging of the essay will take into account specific information regarding the steps you have taken toward your goal, how your past experience integrates with your future plans and your ability to communicate in writing. Essays longer than the indicated word length will be disqualified.
Applications that are incomplete, late or from ineligible students will not be considered. Applications will not be returned. UCLA Extension reserves the right to request additional financial documentation.
Winter 2025 Scholarship Timeline
- The winter application acceptance period has closed
- Notification of scholarship winners: December 5, 2024
Scholarship recipients can utilize their awards to offset course fees beginning in Winter 2025 Quarter and have one year from the date of their award to utilize the full scholarship amount. The scholarship is not transferrable and no cash award will be given.
