Christopher Shogren

Dr. Christopher Shogren serves the County of Los Angeles as an Environmental Horticulture Advisor for the University of California Cooperative Extension. As an Advisor, Dr. Shogren provides expertise in pest management of ornamental plants, and water use issues affecting the development and maintenance of the urban forest. In addition to providing education to various clientele groups, Dr. Shogren conducts applied research to maximize human health benefits related to horticulture, and has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles.   Dr. Shogren grew up in the horticulture industry, working at his parents’ wholesale nursery in Southern California. His undergraduate studies focused on plant production at the California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, where he received degrees in Environmental Horticulture and Agricultural Business. He then went on to receive his PhD in Entomology from the University of California, Riverside, where his research focused on integrated pest management of invasive thrips. Dr. Shogren’s current research focuses on management of insects, diseases and weeds in horticulture production systems and the urban forest. Other research interests include biological control of exotic pests and increasing water use efficiencies in landscapes, nurseries, golf courses, and municipalities.
