Lauren Carter

Laurén Carter has dedicated her entire career of 35+ years to the college admissions and college counseling profession. She spent a decade in university administration and served as the Director of College Admissions at NYU, and has served as Contributing Writer for the Huffington Post. Laurén has also directed college counseling programs at independent schools for over 25 years and currently serves as Director of College Counseling at Sidwell Friends School (DC). Most recently, she has authored, the Amazon best-selling book, Mindful Admissions: An Insider's Guide to Staying Sane, Applying Well and Getting Accepted to College, has written articles for Grown and Flown and serves as a College Admissions Expert for the College Essay Guy Parent Community. A graduate of the University at Albany (BA, Psychology), NYU (MA, School Counseling, K-12), and the College of Saint Rose (CAS, Educational Leadership and Administration), Laurén is an active member of NACAC and the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools. Passionate about equity and access to higher education, Laurén enjoys mentoring African American teen girls and supporting students who are the first in their families to attend college.
