About This Course
Movies allow us to experience the impossible. They can even take us on that most impossible of journeys—time travel. These motion pictures twist time to entertain us, while they spark our imaginations. In Time After Time (1979) author H.G Welles uses a time machine to pursue the notorious Jack the Ripper into that most terrifying future—the twentieth century. In Twelve Monkeys, (1995) Bruce Willis must travel back in time to find the source of a deadly virus before it destroys humanity. In Midnight in Paris (2011) Woody Allen suddenly finds himself in 1920’s Paris, only to meet Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald along with Ernest Hemingway, and enter their celebrated inner circle to find romance. In Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Kathleen Turner is transported back to her senior year in high school in 1960, returning to the present with priceless new insights about herself. And in Groundhog Day (1993), Bill Murray finds himself ensnared in a time loop that transforms him from a hopeless curmudgeon into a mensch.
