About This Course

Discover the extraordinary artistry of Jack Boul—painter, printmaker, and beloved American University professor—whose work appears in the National Gallery of Art, the Phillips Collection, the Smithsonian, and private collections nationwide. His subject matter includes landspaces, seascapes and finding beauty in the ordinary routines of life. Specifically, Boul's paintings feature quotedien scenes—weeding in a garden, sitting on a park bench, combing your hair—elevating the everyday into art. Known for his emotional depth, lyrical brushwork, and powerful Holocaust series housed in the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust, Boul’s art invites viewers into intimate, human moments rendered with profound simplicity. This special lecture is led by his son, David Boul, a seven-time Emmy Award–winning television producer (The Oprah Winfrey Show) and former journalist who now devotes his career to preserving and sharing his father’s legacy. Join us for an inspiring, multimedia journey through Jack Boul’s life, artistic philosophy, and creative vitality. This course uses the Hybrid format which allows students to participate remotely and/or in the classroom. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to videos for 30 days.
