About This Course
Cuba’s architecture evolved from its Spanish colonial past to the bold experimentation of the 20th century. In this course, we explore how the island nation’s unique history —from elegant Baroque, Neoclassical buildings, and grand plazas to iconic Modernist and Art Deco buildings—came to a sudden aesthetic standstill following the radical political shifts of 1959. Our analysis of Cuban buildings and interiors include Morro Castle, Havana Cathedral, Casa de Diego Velazquez, the Bacardi Building, Palacio de Valle, Finca Vigía, Fusterlandia, and many others. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to the video for 30 days.
