About This Course

This workshop is designed to help you develop an original one-hour television or half-hour pilot that demonstrates a strong voice, compelling characters, and professional-level storytelling. Television executives, agents, and showrunners expect polished original material, and in this course you learn how to envision the world of your series, create character and conflict, build a sustainable story engine, define tone, and master structure and act breaks appropriate to your format. Working collaboratively, you break story, brainstorm, and support one another’s creative visions while writing intensively and receiving regular feedback from the instructor and fellow writers. By the end of the course, you complete a full outline and receive critique of the opening pages of your original pilot script.
